Fun Fall Container Gardening
Not sure how to choose the right grass type for your lawn? This mini-guide will help you to find the grasses that will thrive in your local environment and specific site conditions, and show the differences between cool-season and warm-season grass types.
Cool-season grasses – suitable for northern areas: smooth meadow-grass (also known as Kentucky bluegrass), bentgrass, ryegrass, and fescues are all great cool-season grasses which can thrive in northern areas with cold freezing winters and hot summers.
Their main growing period is in spring and fall, they come high during summer and go dormant unless they are regularly irrigated.
Warm-season grasses – suitable for southern areas: bermudagrass, centipedegrass, and zoysiagrass are the main warm-season grasses, perfect to create beautiful lawns in southern areas because they can perfectly tolerate drought periods and withstand cooler temperatures.
Their main growing period is in summer, and become dormant with the onset of cooler weather. After the first frost, many of them turn straw-coloured or light brown.
Before you choose which grass will work best for you area, you should also think about other important aspects which can determine the success of your gardening project.
